What does it mean, and why do I care?
Inarguably, the Internet has become an important part of our lives. Gone are the days when people go to the library for information, and to the market for products. People now use search engines in order to find the information and things they need, online.
When customers and prospects search for information, services, and products online they usually use generic keywords. For example if they need a dog trainer, they won’t search for a specific name or dog training school. Instead they will just type the keywords “dog trainer” (or “dog trainer south jersey”). The search engine will then show results of websites that use these keywords which it has decided are relevant for this particular keyword.
Search engine visibility means your website is identified by the search engine as important when people search for keywords. So when search results are delivered, your site will be included on the first page and therefore perceived as one of the top ranking sites.
Why is this important anyway? When your business is displayed on Page 1 of Google, you are in front of these people searching for the products or services you have to offer. They are looking for a place to spend their money. We want them to choose you!
When people see you on top of the list, they assume right away that you are one of the top players in the field. You are immediately positioned as an expert. So when people reach your website, they are already convinced they are getting the best information available.
Finally, statistics show that 92% of searchers do not go past Page 1 in the search results. If you are on Page 2, Page 3, or worse, you are losing out to your competition.
