How is your site doing? Are you ranking well for keywords that your targets – prospectives customers and customers – are actually using to find a business like yours?
The Internet is fast evolving. Not that long ago, search engines were just a simple tool for a researcher to find information; however, they are now used universally, by everyone.
If you have a business and want to take advantage of the traffic that today’s search engines can send your website, you need to make sure your website gets Page 1 ranking on their results page. There are millions of searches being done daily. However, do note that making it to the top of the search engine is not the only factor you need to consider to ensure your business does really well.
First, are you ranking for the best keywords or most used ones related to your niche. Are these keywords “buying” keywords, or are they “tire kicking keywords”? Having some of the latter is not a problem, but none of the former is a huge mistake. Keyword research is immensely important.
Second, understand that backlinks are very important. But not all backlinks are created equal! So it’s not the quantity the counts but the quality. Your site can rank higher on Google with fewer banklinks than your competition, provided yours are coming from sites with high authority. Also, be careful not to run a backlink campaign for some period of time, and then just turn it off. Google wants to see a “natural” progression, and turning off the faucet will make all the links you built before, suspect.
Lastly, even if your site makes it to Page 1 but it has poor content, then it’s likely that you will not gain the customer’s business. It’s so easy for them to click away to another site on Page 1. So make sure you create good and updated content regularly.
There are more complex things to search engine rankings but these tips can impact your site. Just bear in mind that quality always goes above quantity.
